CHS Cross Country -Across the County Relay

Congratulations CHS!!!!


Today the Christiansburg Cross Country Team once again ran the 30 mile relay across Montgomery County. They do this to raise the funds needed for the team. They don't sell anything, but ask for pledges from the residents of Montgomery County. They don't have a booster club like alot of the other sports teams, but they usse this 30 mile run to get the money for uniforms, team supplies, etc. The great thing is that their coach runs too. He doesn't ask the team to do anything he would not do. He ran 28 of the miles himself. This picture is of Ben, Brandon, and Coach Guynn.




They had a bicycle and police escort thru the county. The town cheered them on.

This memorial was near the 26 mile mark. Last week there was a relay that came thru Christiansburg that honored the fallen in Iraq. This picture was fatality #3565 and he was 20 years old from New Mexico. This saddened all our hearts.




The entire team ran the last 2 miles together and this is them coming down to the final mile.

Last year they raised over $2000 so we hope this year will be even more.

Loosening the apron strings

School started back this week with Ben going into the 11th grade. This year is different because he is driving. Wednesday was the first day he drove himself to school and practice and then home. This was hard. For the past 10 years I have drove him to school and picked him up after practice and delivered his friends home. It is sad but also good for him. I just miss our talks in the car and singing to the songs we both know. I know this is all part of him getting older, but it is hard.

Blessed Sunday

Today was a day truly blessed by God. I went to a Youth Sunday "YouthAblaze" and was truly blessed. It is great to walk in when the singing starts and you feel the tears in your eyes just from the praise and worship music. We got to hear a girl entering into her sophmore year in college give a great testimony about how she loves the Lord and how God is life and how great God is. She was a blessing!! This evening we attened the preview session of Financial Peace University with Dave Ramsey. It is a 13 week class that teaches you to handle money the way the Bible tells you and who would know better than God. We had about 20 people in the class and can't wait to get started. I would love to be able to call the Dave Ramsey Show and yell "Were debt-free!!!!!"

Meeting the Amish

On Thursday, my mom, my dad, my son, and myself decided to visit the Town of White Gate, Va. We had seen an article in the local paper about the town and decided we didn't have to go to Pennsylvania to see the Amish. They were just 40 mins down the road. We drove on Route 100 until you can turn to go to Bland and a few miles down the road we were in White Gate. What a blessing it was. We found a nice little Amish store that had awesome veggies and cheese. We visited a fabric store and drove thru their fields of spaghetti sqaush and pumpkins. I only took one picture because I did not want to invade their privacy. It was truly an experience to see them riding in the horse drawn carts and there being no electricity, phones, or cars. My parents loved it and want to go back in October. Ben had fun too. I think he was shocked to see how close the Amish live to us. O another note we did get to see the Bland Correction Farm when we got lost. I hope we never have to see it up too close!!
